Okay, so this one was a fun series. These guys were angels with what I put them through…which was A LOT of makeup, and actual dirt. We probably spent a solid hour and a half getting both of them ready and then maybe a two hour adventure. The pictures were taken at a local wildlife refuge called Tillman, which if you know me is where most of my images where taken.

This trip to Tillman was a little different for me because it was the first time that I got to go to the abandoned building at this refuge. Fred lead the way and since this day I have been obsessed with this place and the artwork that is there. Upon arriving to the building I realized that they weren’t as dirty as I hoped I could have made them and I made a joke about them rolling around in the dirt, which Fred happily did with a smile only to learn that I was joking. However this is what sparked the idea for the image above (which is Fred, and Steve is the image directly below).

The image above was also my first image EVER published in a book!! Which is even more exciting.

Moral of the story I put these boys through hell just to tell the story of the “Nature Boy”, they truly were champs. These images (I think the series was 6 images in total) were early in my 365 project I did in 2016 I think they were some of the first 100. These continue to be some of my favorite images to date.

nature boy lyrics

There was a boy
A very strange enchanted boy
They say he wandered very far, very far
Over land and sea
A little shy and sad of eye
But very wise was he

And then one day
A magic day he passed my way
And while we spoke of many things
Fools and kings
This he said to me
"The greatest thing you'll ever learn
Is just to love and be loved in return"

"The greatest thing you'll ever learn
Is just to love and be loved in return"
